The fact that you managed to avoid to pay the outrageous prices does not mean it’s not a tourist trap. I always drive/rent a car..but for various reasons this time I had to rely on taxis. Never again, total rip off. I think it’s worth highlighting these facts to help people heading to Santorini.
If you don’t care excellent cheap hotels that are close. Santorini is a 4 and a half hour ferry, if your time is limited flying is sometimes cheaper. Yup on Santorini it’s crawling with tourists and everything is open. Athens the same. I can’t image Mykonos is much different.

6 years ago. Save. My boyfriend and I are traveling to Greece towards the end of May for 7 nights. We're trying to decide between Paros or santorini. From what I've read Paros is relaxing, has beautiful beaches and is less touristy. Santorini of course is beautiful with gorgeous views but more crowded. I'm leaning towards Paros but don't want
Nov 23, 2023 · A visit to “just” Santorini or “only” Crete is absolutely worth it, too. You don’t have to visit both islands to have an unforgettable Greek island holiday . Each of these islands is stunning in its own way, whether it’s thanks to beautiful Greek beaches , ancient historic sites, breathtaking cave hotels , or vibrant nightlife.
While Santorini is stunningly beautiful, 2 days is more than enough before moving on to another island for longer. That was my thinking as well. Santorini reminded me of the thousand islands area, and while beautiful, wasn’t worthy of all the praise it got.
Though Santorini was beautiful, it was a little bit overwhelming with so many tourists and selfie sticks everywhere. Grace looks amazing! Thanks. Will definitely research this further, as it’s in our price range for Santorini. By far the most $$$ for any of our hotels in Greece but figure Santorini is a once in a lifetime visit. We had been looking at Astra next door to the Grace but they are now sold out so back to the drawing board.

100% worth the cab ride. That almost feels like an attraction into itself. You think, maybe I'll just walk up instead of drive. Then walk up a 1000ft incline filled with donkeys! 😂😂 Santorini is an amazing experience all around. Go to this area twice if possible. One by cab and walk out. One by boat. Really fun to do it two ways.
Santorini will be virtually empty in April..you'll have the locals fighting each other to get your business. Most mid-range places are located in Fira. Avoid Perissa Beach locations. The water will be too cold to swim, the beach is rocky, and you'll be located at the far end of the island for the major tourist destinations.
